Giuliani is Losing It. And Losing to Avenatti.
I have followed Rudy Giuliani and Trump’s explanations about the Stormy Daniel’s payoff, and so far, this is what I understand: Trump did not know about the payoff, except that he did. Michael Cohen is not really Trump’s lawyer, except that he is. Cohen provided the hush money from his own resources, except that the money really came from Trump. And the timing had nothing to do with the election, except Giuliani said, “Imagine if that came out on Oct. 15, 2016, in the middle of the, you know, last debate with Hillary Clinton…”
I admit that I have enjoyed Rudy Giuliani’s defenses of Trump on “Fox and Friends,” which wind up incriminating Cohen and the president. However, his erratic and blatantly contradictory statements are worrisome. It is hard to imagine this is the same man who took down the mob decades ago. I wish that someone would contact any family members he still speaks with and have them intervene. Please let them know: “Rudy is not well. He switched the Stormy Daniels payoff story 12 times in a five-minute segment.”
Giuliani has said so many strange things that some have been overlooked. One of my favorites was when he said that America would turn on Mueller if he dared to go after Ivanka Trump, calling her a “fine woman.” First, when he says she’s “fine women,” it sounds like he’s talking about her looks, which is kind of gross. Secondly, how out of touch is he? Does he really think there is a groundswell of love out there for Ivanka, as if she is America’s sweetheart? Please. She is no Sandra Bullock. Just because she may be more tolerable than Don Jr. does not make her beloved. And just because Giuliani has some creepy uncle crush on her does not mean America does.
I guess Giuliani thought he could hit the TV airways and out-Avenatti Michael Avenatti. But he can’t. Avenatti is, of course, Stormy Daniel’s attorney, who has now far surpassed that role. His new title is Michael Cohen’s worst nightmare and the guy to whom you leak any Trump-related dirt.
Avenatti is extremely savvy and telegenic. There is something about him. I don’t know if it’s the blue eyes, the chiseled features, or the taking down Trump. (Okay, all three.) He has female MSNBC viewers all in a tizzy as well as some of the hosts. Even Rachel Maddow called him “handsome.” At the end of an interview with him, “Deadline: White House” anchor Nicole Wallace gushed, “That was Michael Avenatti. We are so lucky to have him here. Come back ANYtime.” Okay, Nicole. I enjoyed him too but play it cool.
Avenatti seems like he comes from the same world as Trump and Cohen. He is a street-fighter, a hustler. Of course it took someone of their ilk to be this good at coming after them. Avenatti himself seems like a thug. But he’s our thug. He is a thug on the side of good.
Poor Giuliani is no match for Avenatti, which is why he is resorting to calling him names, such as a “pimp.” It’s like when you are losing a fight on Twitter and all you have left is “shut up, a-hole.” Rudy also labeled Avenatti a “ambulance chaser.” That’s funny because Giuliani is the one who needs to chase an ambulance — and get in, so they can take him somewhere to get help.
Giuliani versus Avenatti is like taking a boxer out of longtime retirement to battle another who is at the top of his game. It’s a knockout.
